At Narrow Boat Ropes we handmake all our ropes in England and we endeavour to make our ropes as close to the way in which the "Old Time" boatmen used to make their ropes. There are an infinite number of ropes designs but we make ropes that look and feel like those historic ropes. Our main decorative rope material is White Unbleached Natural Cotton and we use Black rope made from polypropylene for side fenders, these fenders look great on narrowboats, canal cruisers or any inland waterway craft and they float. In some products we give a choice of cotton or a synthetic material. However the bleached natural cotton is becomming more and more difficult to source and we may have to resort to synthetic rope, which is generally more durable and less prone to rotting if kept wet. We would recommend a synthetic rope for mooring but we can supply natural rope when requested.
